Her husband speedily followed her, and not discovering her whereabouts, obtained the assistance of his neighbors. At daybreak their search resulted in the unfortunate woman being found dead in a branch of the Wairoa River. An inquest is to be held before Dr Duff this morning. We understand that Mrs Harford's former husband met with his death by drowning near the same spot some years ago.

The verdict returned was "That the deceased drowned herself when in a state of unsound mind," and to this the coroner, Dr Duff, added on his report, "From the evidence it appears that for some time past Mrs Harford had been complaining of pains in the head, and that she had in consequence threatened to drown herself. On Saturday morning about 2 o'clock, she got up and walked to the Wairoa River, about a quarter of a mile distant, and carried her threat into execution."

She was directly followed by her husband, but the morning being dark he could not find her, and as she had been in failing health lately and rather childish, he roused up some of the neighbors to help search for her, the result being that at daylight she was found drowned in a branch of the Wairoa River just below the Brightwater mill. An inquest will be held on Monday morning at 10 o'clock by Dr Duff.
